EVE SETS STANDARD FOR SUCCESS
Eve has achieved BS 8901:2007 certification – the new British standard of sustainability specially developed for the events industry.
The standard defines the requirements for a sustainable event management system to ensure an enduring and balanced approach to economic activity, environmental responsibility and social progress.
To achieve this standard, Eve was required to identify and understand the effects the company’s activities have on the environment, on society and on the economy both within the organisation and the wider economy; plus put measures in place to reduce the overall effect.
Eve had to provide evidence that it considers all areas of sustainability. These include social and economic factors, such as community involvement and fair employment.
Mick Timmins, Health, Safety and Environmental Manager for Eve and who managed the submission and accreditation process with BSI Management Systems on behalf of Eve, said: “We were keen to achieve this industry standard as we recognised how important it is for event suppliers to ensure their activities are sustainable.
“This will in turn reduce the environmental impact on the local community, whilst increasing the economic benefits associated with holding a major event in the area.”
Mick continued: “From Eve’s perspective, achieving this standard will differentiate us from our competitors by providing assurance that any event we are involved with has been planned in a sustainable manner.
“In the long term, we hope it will help win new business by meeting customer demands as more and more event organisers recognise the importance of corporate social responsibility.”
